El Conejo en la Luna

The Spanish edition of The Rabbit in the Moon, created with love for Mexico, family, and the beauty of the story itself.

A Spanish-language edition created with love, gratitude, and deep respect for the story’s meaning.

Why El Conejo en la Luna Matters

My family traveled to Mexico every year during the 1990s, and we fell in love with the people, the culture, the food, the climate, and the history of this extraordinary country.

During my mother’s long battle with dementia, one of her most enduring memories was Mexico. When I would bring up those travels in conversation, she remembered them fondly. Creating a Spanish version of The Rabbit in the Moon felt deeply fitting. It became a way to honor her memory, the joy those years gave our family, and the wonderful friends in Mexico who have become part of our lives.

El Conejo en la Luna is, in many ways, a tribute. It is a tribute to my mother, to memory, and to the country that welcomed me with warmth and generosity.

How the Spanish Edition Came to Life

Our translator, Sandra Herrera, was the spark that helped bring The Rabbit in the Moon to life. She introduced me to Rodrigo Lazo, our illustrator, and soon after became the translator for the Spanish edition.

As we worked through the story together, it became clear that a direct rhyme translation would not preserve the beauty, rhythm, and emotional meaning of the original in the right way. After several revisions and thoughtful conversations, Sandra made the decision to translate the story into prose.

That choice was made with care. Rather than forcing the story into a version that felt unnatural in Spanish, she chose the form that best protected its heart. The result is El Conejo en la Luna, a Spanish edition that honors the meaning of the story and allows it to connect in a natural, authentic voice.

A Gift to Mexico

El Conejo en la Luna is my gift to Mexico for accepting me as an immigrant and treating me like family.

This edition exists because of love, friendship, collaboration, and gratitude. It reflects not only the story of Yabbit, but also my own connection to a country that has given me belonging, inspiration, and lasting human connection.

I am proud that this story now lives in Spanish.

About El Conejo en la Luna

El Conejo en la Luna is a heartfelt children’s book about fear, hesitation, courage, and taking one small brave step at a time. Through its gentle storytelling and memorable characters, the book invites children to see that bravery does not mean being fearless. It means moving forward, even when something feels uncertain.

This Spanish edition preserves the emotional truth of the story while making it accessible to Spanish-speaking children, families, and classrooms.
